Summer Cottage

Did you know that you can completely change the look and feel of a card simply by changing the medium that you choose for adding color? You can even get wild and choose various mediums on the same card. For example, you might want to use watercolors and a few markers to add color to a large image. Using a sponge to add color will yield a different look than a watercolor wash. There is no right or wrong in creating. The main thing is to have fun and relax. What do you think?

Stamps:
   Cozy Cottage

Paper:
   Cajun Craze A-2
   Basic Black 5-3/8 x 4-1/8
   Basic White 5-1/4 x 4 (2)

Ink:
   Archival Basic Black
   Balmy Blue
   Call Me Clover
   Pineapple Punch

Markers:
   Various - Personal Choice

Technique:
   Sponging
   Brayer

Accessories:
   Sponge Brayer
   Chalk Marker
   Adhesive

First, I used a sponge brayer to add color to the background. I used Balmy Blue at the top, followed by Pineapple Punch in the middle, and Call Me Clover at the bottom.

I then stamped my image, a few birds, and the sentiment using Archival Basic Black.

I then proceeded to color my cabin using various markers.

I used a white chalk marker on the windows, and I grabbed the white and gray markers for the stones on the walkway.

Grandma's Cottage

Sometimes I just stamp and get lucky with the result. This card is proof. Then there are some cards that look better from a distance. I probably could not re-create this card to save my life. Any attempt to do so would definitely result in a different card with maybe the theme in common. What are your thoughts?

Stamps:
   Cozy Cottage
   Waterfront

Paper:
   Wisteria Wonder A-2
   Whisper White 5-1/4 x 4 (2)

Ink:
   Tranquil Tide
   Balmy Blue
   Wisteria Wonder
   Whisper White Craft

Markers:
   Basic Black
   Various ones for Cottage

Technique:
   Heat Embossing
   Stamp-Off

Accessories:
   Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder
   Adhesive

First, I used my black marker to color in the parts of the cottage that I wanted to stamp. I breathed on it to reactivate the ink and stamped on to the Whisper White panel. I stamped the cottage a bit over to the left side.

Then I took the mountains from the Waterfront stamp set. Using the Wisteria Wonder ink I stamped them above and on the side of the cottage. Notice that I stamped-off a couple of times to create a bit of dimension. (Stamp-off means that I stamped twice or three times before inking my stamp again.)

I then grabbed the Balmy Blue and added the "ground" or solid masses on the bottom of the mountains. Again, I stamped-off under each one.

Next, I used the Tranquil Tide for the trees. I scattered them throughout.

I used various markers to color in the cottage. I did not write down the colors, but I think they may have been Cajun Craze, Soft Suede, Daffodil Delight, Basic Bray, and White. Notice, in coloring my snow on the roof and the ground, my basic black somewhat bled, accenting my marker movements. It does make it look a bit "dirty" which is probably more realistic anyway.

Lastly, I added bits of VersaMark around the cottage, basically on the trees and mountains. I applied my Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder and heat set it. I then adhered it onto the Wisteria Wonder card base. The other Whisper White panel was adhered to the inside of the card.

I do like the combination of colors. They may not be very realistic, but the Balmy Blue makes me feel cold and reminds me of ice. I do hope you like it. I may try my hand at it again.

Quiet Life

Do you remember when you had a yard for playing, no privacy fence, and your closest neighbor was one of your best friends? Life was simple with less stress. When I first saw this image of a cozy cottage it brought back memories of outdoor fun with the neighborhood playing football, red-rover, or just plain tag. There were no bumps on the street, and it was safe to be outside with everyone. What is your favorite memory?

Stamps:
   Cozy Cottage

Paper:
   Flirty Flamingo A-2
   Basic Black 5-1/4 x 4
   Glossy White 5 x 3-3/4
   Whisper White 5-1/4 x 4 (Inside)

Brushos:
   Moss Green
   Yellow
   Prussian Blue
   Brilliant Red

Ink:
   Jet Black StazOn
   Old Olive

Technique:
   Watercolor

Accessories:
   Water Spritzer (Mister)
   Aqua Painter
   Adhesive

First, I spritzed my glossy paper with water. I sprinkled brusho flakes on it, and added more water. I dabbed here and there with a paper towel if it needed it. I repeated the process as often as I needed, until I was "happy". I then set it off to the side to dry.

Once it was dry, I used my old olive to fill in the extra white spaces on the bottom of the card. I used my aqua painter for this. I set the panel aside to dry again. (You can use a heat tool to speed the drying time if you want.)

I then inked up my cottage with Jet Black StazOn and stamped it on my panel.

I added the brick fence toward the bottom of the card.

I chose to leave the card without a sentiment, so that it can be used for any occasion. A sentiment can always be added before sending it.

Lastly, I adhered the layers on the card front, and the Whisper White panel to the inside of the card.
